About Us
Clapham Community Choir was started by Jessie Maryon Davies, a Clapham-born professional pianist and musical organiser, to provide an opportunity for people in and around Clapham to come together in song. Jessie was the choir’s leader until 2015, when we welcomed our next long-term music director, Adam Saunders.
Adam is an exceptionally talented musician, composer and music director — so we were extremely lucky to have him leading our choir. His music has been played all over telly, he’s conducted at the Royal Albert Hall, and (on insider information) we understand he’s worked with some very big names in the music business!
One of his most recent ventures is his Youtube channel, The Keys Coach, where he teaches piano in a really fun and engaging way.
At Clapham Community Choir, Adam has led us through some beautiful arrangements. Whether it’s a folk song, a pop hit, a 17th Century motet or a motown classic, his musical knowledge never ceases to impress. Recently, some of our favourite tunes have included California Dreamin’, Moon River, Blackbird, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Green Grow the Rashes Oh, If Ye Love Me, and a brilliant Bill Withers medley.
You can catch the choir at regular performances throughout the year. In 2024, we’ve sung at The Battersea Arts Centre, The Pear Tree on Clapham Common, The Herne Hill Music Festival, and are a regular at the Pig’s Head each year to smash out those Christmas hits!
As of March 2025, we’ve welcomed our new director Alex Ellison – fresh off the West End where he performed as ‘Swing’ in The Choir of Man. With plentiful accolades to his name we’re extremely excited to see where he takes the choir for our next chapter.
Aside from the singing, we love to get together for plenty of socials, as well as activities outside of the choir. This really brings about a true community feel, and fosters a great environment for making lifelong friends who are there for each other through thick and thin.
